Board Members

 

 

Frederick V Stahl, Chairman

Frederick V Stahl has 34 years of experience in the refrigeration industry including Ammonia as well as Freon systems. He currently owns and operates an independent sales rep agency, REF-TEC CO. in Lewisville, NC.

Fred Stahl was in the U. S. Army Corps. of Engineers. He received technical training in refrigeration from the Passaic Vocational Technical School and from the Frick Factory school. He also has a degree from Bergen Community College in Business Management.

Fred and his wife, Elizabeth, have been married for 36 years. They have two sons, Frederick M. and Brian W.

 

Jerry M King, Secretary

Jerry and his wife, Bonnie, live in Lumberton.  Jerry with thirty-six years of experience in welding and industrial gasses is Branch Manager with Machine and Welding Supply Co. in Lumberton, NC.

 

 

G. Gary Ramsey, Treasurer

Gary Ramsey is a heating, air conditioning and refrigeration high school career technology teacher at N. F. Woods Advanced Technology Center in Mooresville, NC. 

 

He holds AAS degrees in Business Management, Sales and Marketing, Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology from Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, NC.

 

From 1970 until 1989 he worked as a Refrigeration Sales/Technical Representative with Graves Refrigeration in Charlotte, NC.  From 1989 until 1992 he was employed with United Refrigeration in the same capacity.  He was involved with the engineering, application, and installation design of commercial refrigeration equipment.  Gary also served as a technical advisor for both companies. 

 

From 1992 until 1997 he was employed with Carolinas Health Care System in Charlotte, NC.  He was responsible for the mechanical systems.

 

From 1997 to present, he has held his present faculty position at N. F. Woods Advanced Technology Center.  Mr. Ramsey has conducted many professional seminars for various industrial groups.  In June of 2002 one of his students won the National SKILLS/USA-VICA Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Competition in Kansas City, Missouri.  In January of 2003 at the AHR Expo in Chicago, one of his students finished third place in the SKILLS/USA-VICA WorldSkills Refrigeration Qualifying Trials.

 

Gary and his wife, Ellen, live in Concord. 

 

D. L. Fox

Donald Fox is a Professor and Associate Chair in the School of Public Health, Environmental Science and Engineering, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a BS  degree in chemistry from Wichita State University, a PHD in Physical Chemistry from Arizona State University, and a Post Doctorate and Raleigh Fellow in Air Pollution/Atmospheric Chemistry from UNCC.

Dr. Fox is active in the Reactivity Research Working Group.  In addition to his tenure at the University of North Carolina, he served as a special assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense - Environment, Department of Defense, Washington, DC.  He has been awarded the EPA Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Atomic Energy Commission Fellowship, and the National Defense Education Act Fellowship.   

Dr. Fox and his wife, Barbara, reside in Chapel Hill.  

 

 

D. E. Klett

David Klett was born October 24, 1944 in Dowagiac, Michigan. He earned the BS in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University in 1966, and MS and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida in 1968 and 1970 respectively. In 1970 he joined Bell Laboratories in Greensboro, NC as a member of technical staff in the mechanical design department where, among other assignments, he worked on the chilled water cooling for the Safeguard ABM computer system. In 1975 he joined North Carolina A&T State University as Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His tenure in the A&T mechanical engineering department has included three years as department chair, and his current position as professor and undergraduate coordinator. He also serves as faculty advisor to the student chapter of SAE, and advises the department's SAE Mini-Baja team, Formula SAE team, and Intercollegiate Auto Racing team.

Dr. Klett is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, the American Solar Energy Society, and the North Carolina Solar Energy Association. He is a past Chair of the Solar Energy Division of ASME and currently serves as the Education Chair of the Division and as a member of the Testing and Measurements Technical Committee and the Solar Boat Competition Committee. He has been responsible for obtaining over $1.6 million in research funding for the University in such areas as solar energy, diesel engine combustion, and rough surface heat transfer augmentation. He has published over thirty technical papers and book chapters in these areas. Dr. Klett is married to the former Michele Bobik of Dowagiac, Michigan, and they have one son, Michael. In his spare time he likes to fish and ride motorcycles.

 

S. B. Peay

Steve Peay lives in Raleigh and has a son, 20, and a daughter, 18.

For the past thirty years, Steve Peay has worked for Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. During this time, he has been involved in the installation, engineering, and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. Currently Steve is the regional maintenance manager for Winn-Dixie stores. 

 

 

T. F. Welch

Timothy Welch is the co-owner of Frank Welch and Sons, an electrical and refrigeration company, and is the owner of TW Signs and Graphics. He has completed the North Carolina Firefighter Certification I and II, the North Carolina Haz-mat Operation Certification, the EPA Technician Certification, and holds North Carolina Refrigeration License 2936.

In his spare time, he enjoys golf, boating, church softball, traveling, and scuba diving. He has been a volunteer firefighter for 18 years and received the Fireman of the Year award three years. Mr. Welch received an award for Life Saving Bravery in 1991. He is the single father of two daughters, Stephanie and Staci.
