A Type I Certificate authorizes a technician to purchase and handle refrigerant in the maintenance, service, or repair of small appliances that are fully manufactured, charged, and hermetically sealed in a factory with five (5) pounds or less refrigerant. Among others, these include home refrigerators and freezers, room air conditioners (to include packaged terminal air conditioners), and packaged terminal heat pumps.

2. Provide a photocopy of two forms of current and
valid identification. At least one form of identification
must include a photograph. Acceptable forms of identification
include a valid driver's license, social security card,
passport, military identification, other forms of government
(local, county, state, federal) identification, or other
appropriate employment identification cards.
3. The examination is fairly difficult and contains
materials that you will not have learned form field
experience and previous training. Therefore, the SBRE
has an optional Self-Instruction Manual available
for an additional $10. It will be to your definite
advantage to have this manual to study and have available
as you take the examination.
4. Mail your completed application along with two pieces
of identification (including at least one with a
photograph) and payment of $25 payable to: SBRE, 893 Hwy. 70 W., Suite 208,
